Most of the time an ERP System Master Data becomes contaminated with empty Quotes, test Customer Cards, Duplicate Contact Cards, wrong Item Cards and etc.  This creates a chronic and long-lasting negative impact on the performance of system and user experience.

To mitigate this situation, you can use multiple methods:

• Periodic Reviews: ERP Management Team may conduct periodic reviews of main tables that are part of Master Data and clean duplicates or fix problematic records.
• Control Mechanism as a Gatekeeper: Another approach could be to implement a control mechanism that will will conduct Quality Check on each new record that enters Master Data tables.

When creating Workflows and Department Structure, take into account potential areas that can create bottlenecks and integrate mitigation measures beforehand. 

Automation is always attracting great attention as a solution to prevent human error and increase efficiency, but one should be very careful when going this path.

Especially, in dynamic structures, where department hierarchy changes and procedures exist, automation can make situation more complicated.

Always give priority to increasing the quality and capabilities of your End-Users.  Periodic Training, Good Documentation, Orientation Program, Video Explanations are some of the tools that can be useful in building strong user-base.

In any ERP System, customizations will always bring more side-effects to the core system that can sometimes result in inability to perform proper upgrades and maintenance activities.  

Remember, sometimes it's better to conduct some structural reforms inside company to increase integration and compliance  with ERP.  By doing so, you will get opportunity to maximize the capacity utilization inside ERP.  You will benefit from all default features and be able to always conduct updates and upgrades of your ERP with minimum additional cost.
